Smart Home Tips for Energy Efficiency from a Top Tampa Bay Realtor

by Alison Connors

Today let's discuss some tips for better home energy efficiency using smart home technology.  Not only does new technology help us with sustainability, but they also help us save money on our energy bills and water bills!  Here are a few items I'd highly recommend adding to your home, best part is none of them are extremely expensive and may help you start saving money right away.  We love helping with home maintenance and are here to serve all your real estate needs as a top producing real estate team in Tampa Bay, FL.  Alison Connors - The Connors Team - RE/MAX Action First we help people buy and sell real estate with 4 licensed Realtor's on our team.

Switch out your light bulbs to LED smart light bulbs.  These not only are just cool - (you can switch colors using the app on your phone with some of them!) they save you money.  The light bulbs last way longer than the incandescent light bulbs saving you money.  They also emit less energy than the incandescent light bulbs saving you money.  Personally, I just think the look of them also updates your home space to more modern.  It be a good time to switch out any yellowing cans too to keep your home from looking aged.

The next smart home tip is switching to a smart thermostat.  Smart thermostats track your family's schedule and habits and adjusts the temperature to optimize when you are home.  This saves you from running your HVAC and heat more than necessary and helps keep down you energy bill.  The price of one of these will typically pay for itself in the first year with the energy savings of about 8% per year.

The third item I think all homes in FL need to have is a new sprinkler system installed that includes a weather gauge.  The newer systems can detect when we are expecting rain, which in the summer can be daily and save you money on your water bill if it is metered.

The 4th item is smart plugs - one of the coolest experiences I recently had at my friend’s house was as we went to leave trying to juggle getting the kids out with their belongings - she said, "Alexa turn off all lights." Every light she has plugged into smart plugs, and they all went out upstairs and downstairs so she didn't have to run around turning off everything before they left.  This is a great technology to save time and electricity.  It's also a nice feature if you are traveling to be able to put on and off lights as a safety feature.  Highly recommend.

We hope these smart home tips help simlify your life, make your home more energy efficient, and save you some money!  As I stated, we love helping with home maintenance and are here to serve all your real estate needs as a top producing real estate team in Tampa Bay, FL.  Alison Connors - The Connors Team - RE/MAX Action First we help people buy and sell real estate in Tampa Bay.  If you have any questions about upgrading spaces or making decisions about home maintenance, please give me a call and I will happily give you my advice and/or refer you to a trusted partner to help you wiht your needs.  We look forward to hearing from you soon and always ready to help!  My direct number to call or text is 813-758-3063 Alison Connors - RE/MAX Action First.
